One of the SEC West’s biggest college football rivalries heats up again Saturday night. The Crimson Tide try to keep their undefeated season and national title dreams going, but the nearly-unstoppable Leonard Fournette and the Tigers stand in their way in Baton Rouge.
Prediction: Alabama 34, LSU 21
One of college football’s biggest rivalries kicks off Saturday night with the LSU Alabama rivalry going down in Baton Rouge. The Alabama LSU rivalry has been one of college football’s biggest games every season for years now and things are no different this year as LSU tries to upset Alabama, potentially spoil their national championship hopes, and steal the SEC West.
The Alabama LSU rivalry dates all the way back to 1895 with Alabama leading the all-time series 50-25-5 and having won five-straight and seven out of the past nine meetings. The LSU Alabama rivalry has long been one of college football’s biggest rivalries, but has taken on a unique tendency in the past few years as Alabama has remained a perennial national champion candidate and LSU hasn’t been able to match their success. That separation has turned the rivalry into a yearly meeting where LSU is mostly just trying to spoil Alabama’s season more than anything.
The Alabama LSU rivalry continues its recent trend of giving LSU the chance to spoil Alabama’s national title dreams, but things are a bit different this year as LSU will be coached by someone other than Les Miles for the first time in more than 10 years. Miles won his first three games against Alabama and five out of his first seven, but struggled in recent years, losing the last five games in the Alabama LSU rivalry by an average of 13 points.
LSU’s interim coach Ed Orgeron has led LSU to three-straight wins behind the magic of Heisman candidate running back Leonard Fournette, but he has not seen a challenge nearly as steep as the one Alabama will provide in the LSU Alabama rivalry Saturday night.
