Vaughn, WinView Vice President of Engineering & Operations and former Electronic Arts Executive, Named Interim President and CEO
San Francisco – January 24, 2017– WinView, Inc. (www.winviewgames.com), the nation’s leading live sports prediction mobile games platform, announced the planned retirement of the Company’s founder and CEO, David B. Lockton, who will remain on the Board as well as become WinView’s part-time Chief Innovation Officer. Eric Vaughn, currently Vice President of Engineering and Operations of WinView, and former COO of EA’s Capital Games Studio, has been named Interim President and CEO.
Lockton, the pioneer of two-screen, real-time mobile games synchronized with live television programming and advertising, was previously the founder of Interactive Network and AirPlay Network – WinView’s predecessor companies – and the only other second-screen companies in the category of TV viewers playing along on a mobile device while they predict how action will develop in a live sporting event on TV.
The culmination of Lockton’s career innovations and patents led to the formation of the WinView Games app in 2015. Recently, WinView launched in-game sports predictions paid entry contests in 36 U.S. states as a real game of skill. Users who are watching a nationally televised pro sports game, such as football and basketball, as well as other sports, are able to join a free or paid entry WinView quarter-long contest, and compete against other sports fans to accurately predict the plays in real-time. Users who accumulate the most points by the end of the contest win cash prizes.
Lockton said, “WinView is well positioned and in good hands to drive this new TV viewing experience in the live sports, skill-based mobile game industry. I wanted to see WinView through the design of the key games and launch of paid entry contests, and I’m delighted to have Eric take the reins. He is one of the few people I know who helped pioneer our category with eight years of experience at Interactive Network, combined with his more recent operating experience in overseeing a key mobile games unit at Electronic Arts.” Vaughn was COO of the studio that produced Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes – EA’s most profitable mobile game.
WinView Executive Chairman, Tom Rogers said, “We will be forever grateful to Dave for his incredible vision of the future of two-screen television entertainment and his persistence, determination and leadership to bring that vision to fruition at WinView. We look forward to his continued involvement as our Chief Innovation Officer, consulting to the Company on future product development and category expansion matters. Moreover, we are delighted to have a mobile games veteran of Eric’s caliber assume leadership of the Company during this interim period. He has demonstrated outstanding operational leadership during his 18-month tenure at WinView.”
Vaughn commented, “I’m excited for the opportunity to carry on Dave’s vision and build out WinView Nation for sports fans across the country as the ultimate mobile games platform where they can demonstrate their sports IQ. I’m encouraged by our early momentum as a company and look forward to building on the progress our talented team has made so far.”
WinView has 48 patents based upon Lockton’s inventions, which are considered foundational to skill-based mobile games, in-game sports predictions, and two-screen television advertising. Lockton will spend time on monetization of the patent portfolio, and new market opportunities.
